If a shift crosses midnight — you start at 20:00 and finish at 08:00 — just type it that way: it works itself out.

Overtime rules
In Chile it's 42 since April 2026. Set yours.

How it's worked out, no tricks

Gross hours are the difference between start and finish. If the finish time is at or before the start time, the shift is taken to cross midnight and is counted into the next day.

From that, only unpaid breaks are deducted. Paid breaks are shown separately but count as time worked, because they are.

Formula: hours worked = (finish − start) − unpaid breaks.

Overtime and double counting

You can count it by daily limit, weekly limit, or both. The third case is the one that matters: if you apply both, an hour already counted as overtime for going over the day doesn't count again for going over the week. Daily overtime is marked first, and the weekly excess is worked out only on the regular hours that are left. Regular plus overtime always adds up to exactly the hours worked.

That detail is what's usually wrong elsewhere, and what makes the numbers disagree with your payslip.

Set your own limits

The defaults are 8 hours a day and 42 a week, which is the Chilean general working week since 26 April 2026, dropping to 40 in April 2028. Change them to yours. Exceptional shift systems — many 7x7 and 14x14 rosters — follow the resolution that authorises them, not a general weekly limit.
